Kanako Okiron asked Kayla Miller:

Hii Kayla! I hope this isn't too weird of a question, but as a biracial girl (half Japanese half Australian), I always wondered what ethnicity Olive Branche is?(I know it's tongue in cheek because her name is quite literally, Olive Branch), but yeah I just get interested about this kind of stuff. If you've never really thought about it that's ok too! Just ignore me and my inquisitive mind.

Kayla Miller Hi! Not a weird question at all. As you noted, her last name is a play on words-- and for the first few books Olive didn't have a last name, because I admittedly hadn't thought of one yet. I imagined her family as white and Italian American when I was drawing them which is why I chose Amato as the last name on her mom's side of the family in Crunch. Her father is going to appear in the next book and he's also white. When I was working on his character design, I imagined him as being of Irish and French decent.
