I mean, all the information is there - in writing, in books! All of it - for all the ages! For me, this was nagging me the whole time

You could hand me all the books about how to build a car, and I could maybe do 1% of it. The reason we have the life we have today is that billions of people do small parts and it adds up. A famous essay by Leonard Read, "I, Pencil" tells us that no person on Earth knows how to make a pencil, but millions of people mine graphite, chop wood, create paint, and rubber, and iron, so that ultimately we end up with a pencil. Our technology requires even more people to function, even with all the knowledge there, in writing. (less)
