does it bother anyone that in the 20 years since these people got slammed and the human race got almost wiped away , no one thought about going to a library and figuring out how to rebuild? I mean, all the information is there - in writing, in books! All of it - for all the ages! For me, this was nagging me the whole time

Like others have said, the early days of the pandemic seem to be fraught with uncertainty and chaos. People died so quickly, yet those who survived clung to a hope that "someone will save us" and then everything will return to normal. In that moment, all you can think about is the short-term and how to survive the next day.

I also think that many of the characters suffer from some degree of PTSD, which could also impact their ability to plan and think rationally.(less)
