Chrissi Sepe asked Lena Dunham:

I really related to the chapters in Not That Kind Of Girl regarding phobias and obsession with death. Now that you've realized that these things are distractions from the real issues you don't want to face in your life, have your phobias and thoughts of death lessened?

Lena Dunham They definitely have. I find if I am tired, stressed, hungry or sick those fears creep back in, as if health and a busy fulfilling life is a guard against them. But I also think contemplating death (in a non phobic way) is an essential part of life. It's sort of like pizza-- part of why pizza is so good is because you know it won't last forever. It's a perfect pizza moment, heading toward the most delicious crust, and then maybe you get another slice but your whole day cannot be pizza. Okay, this metaphor has gone off the rails but do you feel me? We savor life because it's a finite gift.
