A Goodreads user asked B.R. Kingsolver:

I've recently read Broken Dolls and wrote a review (I will post on my blog soon). I absolutely loved the book. What was the influence behind it to be written?

B.R. Kingsolver There were several influences, Richelle Meade’s Georgina Kincade books, Ann McCaffery’s Darkover books, and Celtic mythology, which also inspired Tolkien.

I noticed that most current literature only enables sex-positive women (such as the succubus myth) if they are serving evil. That offends me. I started thinking about what other interpretations of the succubus could be derived. Since the original myth of the succubus was conceived by the Catholic church in the middle ages to fuel the Inquisition and stamp out the last vestiges of pagan Goddess worship, I decided to use the Celtic myths of the Sidhe, or Faery Folk, to create a world where those ancient myths had truth.

My first book in the world of the Telepathic Clans was The Succubus Gift. I have since written 5 books set in that world, and Broken Dolls was the third. I have recently published the last book in the series, Succubus Ascendant, as well as the complete series as a 5-book bundle called Gifts of the Goddess.
