Either way is fine - they're both designed to be standalone.
Personally I think it'll be a little bit more fun if you read Legends first, especially given the way the epilogue functions - but I always intended it to be able to stand on its own.
So far, responses from readers who have only read B&B seem to bear that out.

All that said, this one does end with a postscript that gives away some important things about a couple of different story arcs in Legends & Lattes, so if you care about spoilers, maybe better to read them in order.

I've read both (in order) but I'd say they can be read alone/in any order. There's not a lot of world-building, so readers should be comfortable with kind of Generic European Fantasy Universe, but you're not missing out on crucial explanations if you skip book 1.
