Hello! I am doing my first read through of the Vokosigan Saga, and in The Vor Game, there is the Laskowski base. In High School, I had a math teacher/mentor/friend, George Laskowski, who also wrote a sci-fi zone, Lan's Lantern. Is this base named for him? If so, that's quite an honor (and a well deserved one, in my opinion. He was a great person), from such a distinguished author as yourself!

Yes, Lazkowski Base was indeed named for George, to his amusement. Good to know he's remembered fondly. He was an active fan around central Ohio back when I lived there. The Lan's Lantern zine used to review some of my early books, to my benefit, and interviewed me iirc at least once.

I was just thinking about Alys Vorpatril - admiring her regal air and outstanding competence - it occurred to me that she first appears as Lady Alys, already married, and I cannot think of any mention of her immediate family. Are there highly competent and scary sisters somewhere else on Barrayar? Also Ivan is related to the Vorrutyers - does that mean her maiden name was Vorrutyer?
