How do you get inspired to write?

Cara Sue Achterberg I have long believed that you can't wait for inspiration to write. That said, I've always loved the simple act of writing- even a grocery list, so that's easy for me to say. On days when I don't feel inspired, I've discovered that if I just start writing, almost always the inspiration will come. I've heard creative people talk about how the energy is always around you and you just have to catch it (or sometimes wrestle it to the ground). I love that image, so I picture this river of ideas floating by me and figure I just need to get in position with my pen or laptop and be ready to toss in my fishing line.
