Getting to tell a story that I care deeply about to people I have never met. It's the corollary to being a reader. The written word transcends time and location. It transports you to a new place. It's amazing to have written these characters and this particular story. It now actually exists in the world so long as it is experienced by other people. It feels magical.

I listened to half of "Yellow Crocus" on audio and read the rest. As a new mother, I found myself moved to tears by Mattie's experience being separated from infant Samuel. This is such a wonderful book and I was sad to reach its end. As a historical novel, what was the most challenging part of the story to write?
