Hello Ms. Nielsen, I LOVED "Words on Fire" and "Resistance" they were soooo good! Historical Fiction is my favorite genre, and I'm so happy you wrote those books! If you don't mind me asking, how do you conduct your research for historical fiction books? What's it like writing historical fiction? Any tips on how to write it? Some "Don't-Do's" for writing it? And how to write a well developed short story? Thanks!
Jennifer A. Nielsen
Hi Marcelle. Research is where every one of my historical fiction novels begin, and I research throughout the entire writing process. It comprises about half of my total writing time. I use as many sources as I can find, from online content to books and interviews, photographs and documentaries. My best tip is to write down all of your sources - what info did you get from where? Because at some point, you will need more details or you'll need to verify a fact and you'll be very happy if finding that information again is as simple as referencing your original source. Good luck!

Also I noticed in "The Deceiver's Heart" you alluded the Eranbole Sea when Joth was telling Kestra his backstory about how his people, the Navanese, were from somewhere across/by the Eranbole Sea, from The Ascendance series, correct? That was so cool!

Hi Mrs. Nielsen, I've read the captive kingdom but there is one part that I don't understand. When imogen asked Jaron when was the last time he snuck out of a ship's porthole and Jaron understood what Imogen meant, what did that mean? What do they plan to do before the prozarian ship arrives? Thank you.
