While it isn’t absolutely imperative that you’ve read Book 1 or remember it, some of it comes back to you as you read Book 2. With that being said, I think it’s more gratifying to remember all that transpired in Book 1. It is really important and leads to many plot points in Book 2.

No, you definitely do not need to read Things We Never Got Over. She fills you in when needed, but it is a pretty separate storyline and it is good!
