I never believed Proctor's role in Pendergast life was just the butler, just like the housekeeper cook, Mrs. Trask. Where he slipped up in this book, has more to do with how sneaky was Fernac, who got his just reward for what he did. I am sure when Proctor wakes up, he's going to call in reinforcements to ensure the return of Pendergast, D'Agosta and hopefully Constance. (less)
