How did you come up with such an idea to write a your amazing book Upstate?!

Kalisha Buckhanon Hello Laila, Thank you for reaching out and for reading Upstate. A variety of factors formed to create the characters, story and overall urgency of it. At base point of all that was probably my concern over a statistic I read stating more black men ages 18-24 were in jail than college, and it was distressing.
