Did you read writers of the beat generation growing up? Do you think Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac should be read as part of the modern literary canon?

Dave Schaafsma I do! They were romantics, in the Wordsworth and Whitman tradition, free spirits. . .with some self-destructive tendencies/drugs/booze but there's a spirit of invention in their work, at its best.
