My daughter who is a 3rd grader loved it. She loves wordplay so this one was perfect for her. I loved that the content was appropriate and the language was challenging.
Lady Makaveli
For sure! And it's just as amazing at 23!
Connie Gunderson
A perfect read for a kid like that.

Absolutely. I read this as a 3rd grader, and it was a tad bit scary, but that helps the plot a lot.

My soon to be 3rd grader (reads above grade level also) could definitely follow the basic story line and get into the characters but much like the first time I read this book the innuendos, word play and subtle jokes would be lost to a young inexperienced reader. However, these are not necessary for the to be enjoyed as a good adventure story! It definitely has many layers as was the intention of the authors and many from his era like Maurice Sendak and Roald Dahl. This book is one that should be read over and over at different stages of life and development.

There are some high vocabulary words in there, but I'm sure, with your aid, just like Christopher suggests, he will read through it smoothly.
Christopher Dean
Yes. It is clean and fun. The third grader may not understand all the word plays but if you're reading it with them then I would say you can help in that area. It is a super easy read.
Robert Boyd
I read this book around that age. It now has an amazing feeling of nostalgia associated with it. I remember it being very verbose but exciting and fun. Definitely would recommend to your third grader!
Chris Rigby
Probably. There is a whole lot in it they'd enjoy, but they should hang on to their copy and re-read it every few years, and get more and more from it.
Bella
there is a lot of wordplay (especially math) so if you think that they will like that than this book is an amazing read.
Abigail Lauerman
it is good for all ages
Amina A
Of course! It's a great read.
Dana
I think it's very suitable!
M-girl
Yes. Definitely.
Megan
Obviously. I heard it's somewhat 6th grade, and I read it. It's awesome for kids.
