This is listed as Aaron Falk #3. Does one have to read the first two before this one?

Although there are references to event that occurred in "The Dry", "Exiles" can be read as a stand alone. However, "The Dry" is an excellent book so if you haven't read it, pick it up!

I read The Dry a couple years ago, and only vaguely remembered the links between Falk and Raco. In relation to this book, The Dry is a background to why they're close, and how they met (Falks hometown being Racos worktown). This book takes place in Racos hometown. Reading as a standalone would be grand tbh. I can give spoilers / synopsis but I'd recommend reading book 1 The Dry as it's a solid book! The 2nd in the series (Force of Nature) doesn't really have any ties to Raco, so if you wanted you could skip it.

I would recommend reading the other two instead.

Previous book, The Dry, is where the relationship between Falk, Raco and Rita develops. Exiles also mentions some small details of events that happened in The Dry. Some readers could find these references confusing

I read "The Dry" some time ago and don't remember their about their friendship, but it was a long time ago and there were many characters "The Dry" is a good book, it is worth reading.

I don’t think you gave to read the previous books but The Dry is a much better book.

I would say that you can read it as a stand alone, however for the most out of the book read the series.
