The things that I consider interesting and want to write about are almost unknown to most people. I decided I needed to write a book that might capture the public imagination. I knew a great deal about Chaco Canyon and other mysteries of the Southwest. Now all I needed was a concept that would excite publishers - the DaVinci Code meets the Wild West.
