Doug Hocking History. There are many amazing, incredible, absolutely true stories in the history of the west that I don't have to go far to seek inspiration.
Doug Hocking The things that I consider interesting and want to write about are almost unknown to most people. I decided I needed to write a book that might capture the public imagination. I knew a great deal about Chaco Canyon and other mysteries of the Southwest. Now all I needed was a concept that would excite publishers - the DaVinci Code meets the Wild West.
Doug Hocking I write something I want to write. I'll skip to deep in the book and write a chapter that wants to be written. I'll get back to the other later and it will be easier since I'll know what comes before and after.

I have some other novels of the Southwest written and need to work on them. There are also a dozen articles I ought to get back to now that Mystery of Chaco Canyon is done. It has consumed the last four months.
Doug Hocking There are sharks in the water. The average self-published author sells less than 100 books. Unless you can make your money back on 100, don't spend the money. On the other hand, if you plan to succeed, look for deals that really work.
