Would The Passenger be required to read prior to delving into this?

The structure and style and content (I'd hate to use the concept of 'plotline' here) is different between books, too, yet still Cormac McCarthy. The only thing in common between the books is the characters, brother and sister and The Kid. Stella Maris is not a sequel and although (timewise) taking place prior to the other, it is not really a prequel to The Passenger, certainly not carrying any sort of the same 'plotline' of the first. While each may lend insight to the relationship of the brother and sister, I think they could be read in any order. Both require a re-read, perhaps an interesting experiment would be to read in reverse order the second time around.(less)
