Suden Käpälä asked this question about Sandworms of Dune (Dune, #8):
I am of a mind to read only Frank Herbert's original "Dune" books, plus BH/KJA's "Hunters"/"Sandworms of Dune". Is this a bad idea? Or can books 7 & 8 be read / understood / enjoyed without having read any of the prequels? (Please, no answers based on hate for these sequels. I'll want to make up my own mind about them. I just want to know whether I'll be hampered by ignorance of the prequels' plots & details.)
Allan Moloney I read just FH's six Dune books and then went straight into Hunters and Sandworms. It was fine and you'll have no trouble following the story, however…moreI read just FH's six Dune books and then went straight into Hunters and Sandworms. It was fine and you'll have no trouble following the story, however if you read just The Butlerian Jihad between FH's books and 7/8, you'll likely get a bit more out of the last two.(less)
