David Dalglish:
I'm revisiting your 'Shadowcloak' books now that I found them republished. Do you feel they're better than the first go around? It seems like there's more background detail in the new release. I enjoyed them the first time so had to find out what changed and I'm curious about what it's like to work with 'professional' book people over self-publication.

Few questions here, so lemme see if I can bang these out.
Yes, I feel they are absolutely better. A lot of inconsistencies are gone, muddled character motivations are clarified or now make actual sense, and most tiny errors have been removed.
Differences between self-pub and Orbit: with Orbit, I can be a little less "write or die" and more "okay let's do this right". Not that I slap-dashed crap out while self-publishing, but with Orbit, there's going to be a lot of eyes on the product within the company, and I'll end up doing far more passes on the book with a lot more input from editors compared to my normal process. Overall, I like it. Plus spiffy covers that I don't have to pay for.
If you want a specific discussion on what changed on each book, btw, I did some posts for each one. You can find them here:
