Were the scientific aspects of the books fictional or are they plausible in real life? If they were true, what kind of reseated went into it?

MD
MD asked Andy Weir:

What awards has it won so far? I really enjoyed this awesome book. I think more awards will follow.

Michael Samuelson
Michael Samuelson asked Andy Weir:

I'm a coach on my daughter's FTC Robotics team. It's an opportunity to share a love of engineering with future engineers in high school. I want to buy each kid on the team a copy of The Martian, as Mark Watney embodies the never-despair, every-problem-has-a-solution spirit the best engineers possess. Alas, the language prevents that. Any chance of a ****ed release? The Martian is too good not to share.

Joel
Joel asked Andy Weir:

Have you ever imagined, in your writing or daydreaming, what you would say to the world if you were the first person to land on Mars? If so, what would it be?
