I believe what happened is that Hannah goes to the room but nobody answers because Mijail/Mikey killed Hawkeye, and then because of all of the trauma she has been through (probably since childhood by the abusive father) her mind finally falls apart and she disappears for some time. It's hinted throughout the novel that she's been suffering from amnesia, forgetting things.
Also, I suspect the sicko priest is Babysitter.

Definitely think that someone killed someone, but I'm looking at it as a supernatural turn. I was hoping that Mikhail killed Hawkeye, and also wondering if Hannah, who disappeared, had actually gone into shock and left a year later. Something to turn over in your brain, all right.
