Hel asked MaryJanice Davidson:

What is the worst thing about being a writer?

MaryJanice Davidson Having to be your own boss. I know, I know, when I was slogging through my series of SDJs (Stupid Day Jobs) I'd hear people say that and roll my eyes. "Tell me again how terrible it is to be your own boss, you whiner!" But it's true: no one is going to make you sit your butt in the chair and work except you. Your editor can give you a deadline, your agent can ask where the new book is, but neither of them can make you do anything. Setting your own hours is wonderful--there have been gorgeous sunny Tuesdays where I was outside all day and never so much as looked at my laptop. But there have been Saturday nights when everyone was out having fun, and I was alone in the house because a deadline loomed. If you're naturally lazy (like me!) it can take a while to get the hang of making yourself work as certain times.
