What was your inspiration for the Duskwalkers as a monster species?

Elias from the anime The Ancient Magus' Bride was very much inspiration for the Duskwalkers of my series. The rest of the characters won't look as similar to him as they will have different skull and horn variations. The world was inspired by the anime DemonSlayer.
The story, however, was something I just really wanted to write. A medium burn, beauty and beast style, monster romance with a creature that was obvious not human, nor thought like a human, never turned human, and made many mistakes. I wanted to build a really sweet love story with a horror aspect to it.
