Mir asked Julio Alexi Genao:

Have you ever surprised your self with a plot twist in your own writing?

Julio Alexi Genao absolutely. i'm the kind of writer whose stories sort of percolate a long time in the back of my mind, with occasional imagery inconveniently punching through to my forebrain now and again. this means that i *feel* the story before i ever articulate it—leaving room for a lot of meaningful structural details that need to get filled-in later, when i'm in drafting-mode. the best, though, is when i am telling the story in synopsis to someone else, and i realize i'd been aiming at a thing i hadn't even thought of consciously, and it all fits a certain way that feels true and satisfying. that's happened twice; i've kept the transcripts for reference.
