Sometimes the inspiration comes in a dream and forces me to wake up and write. Other times I find I have to push myself to write. Always helps to have a large cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate---and I mean LARGE.
I no longer set word counts for myself because I have realized that it is much easier to write one sentence than it is to write 2500 words. The one sentence usually always turns into at least 1000 or more, and that way I can maintain the momentum of writing without getting disillusioned on the chance that I don't reach a word count.
