OK, I finally tuned in to watch Russian Doll on Netflix and does anyone else think this book is a ripoff of the Amy Poehler / Natasha Lyonne show (released 2/1/19 on netflix)? Ok, it is Alice's relationship with her Dad in this book and Natasha Lyonne's with her mom in the show, and Alice is turning 40 while Natasha turns 36, but.... BTW if you haven't watched Russian Doll, you should!

is it so bizarre for characters to have a birthday on-page/screen, or a relationship with their parent (or even a parental figure), or for a story to take place in a major metropolitan center? of course not.

if you view everything in terms of tropes and generalities, of course you will find similarities, but it doesn't mean people are stealing ideas. it's ludicrous to presume they are doing so here, especially given the time frames of publishing(less)
