What an interesting question! I place great importance on family, so often the opposite is true--my family life interferes with my writing. But I make my living with words, so I definitely have to give myself office hours where I'm not to be disturbed unless someone's bleeding--LOL--and I make up for that by being PRESENT for family the rest of the time.
