A.K. White asked Kerry Anne King:

I loved the way you used magic in Other People's Things. The concept is so original. That's what really sold me on wanting to read your book. Do you have any advice for authors wishing to add touches of magic to their writing?

Kerry Anne King Hey, I'm so glad you loved the magic and the concept! Other People's Things was such a fun book to write. I think the trick to adding those touches of magic is rooted in the same ground rules as writing full on fantasy (which I adore, by the way!) It's important to ground your characters, and therefore your readers, in the version of reality you've created. Whatever the magical element is has its own rules and has to be consistent. Nickle, for example, just knows things are in the wrong place, and eventually where to move them to. She doesn't suddenly have a burst of psychic power that will get her out of a tight spot, etc. The other thing that works well is to thoroughly ground the characters in real word sensory details - what they can see, smell, touch and taste, etc.
