Hello alka joshi I have written to ask you questions before, and I have another question for you as well. Do you have a favourite book or a character that you enjoy a lot? And are you going to make more books after your henna artist books? I really enjoy your writing and stories : ) From Sarah

Thanks so much for getting in touch, Sarah! I love so many characters from books I've read: Jane Eyre, Shug Avery (The Color Purple), Scout (To Kill a Mockingbird), unnamed herione of The Blood of Flowers, Sai (The Inheritance of Loss), Scarlett O'Hara (Gone With the Wind), Kinsey Milhone (Sue Grafton mystery series), David Copperfield, the characters from Pachinko, Marie-Laure and Werner (All the Light We Cannot See), Shira (The Yellow Bird Sings)...I could go on and on!! There are so many good books and so little time to read them all :-) Thank you for reading my books and being open to learning about other cultures. I'm deeply grateful.

Dear Alka, thank you for giving us readers a chance to dive into your imagination with Lakshmi, Radha and Malik. I just started reading The Secret Keeper of Jaipur and CANNOT put it down, I'll likely be finished within a day! Where did you get the knowledge/idea of these healing plants and herbs? Did you spend a lot of time in Shimla?

Can you truly understand what it is like for a woman growing up in India when you left at such an early age? One Indian reviewer said you wrote for white women, not for what it was like for true Indian women. "I found the narrator, Lakshmi Shastri, a henna artist who reads Dickens and Jane Austen, rather unbelievable. Her explanations on what Indians do and don’t do seem written for that white woman audience."
