How and when did you first get into the the graphic novel industry? Other than having passion for what you do, what opportunities did you either create for yourself or were presented to you? Do you have any advice for those who would like to have a career there? Thanks in advance!

I started as a self-publisher. Most of my (non-superhero) cartoonist friends started the same way. Derek Kirk Kim, Raina Telgemeier, Dave Roman, Kazu Kibuishi, Jason Shiga, Lark Pien-- all started by making, printing, and selling their own comics.

I've been teaching American Born Chinese in my HS lit classes for years. A small group just worked with it, and I saw what I have always seen: students from a range of immigrant backgrounds -- this time Latino, Eastern European and Middle Eastern -- all strongly relate to the identity issues in the text. How has it felt to see this book resonate so strongly across ethnic groups, and did you anticipate this?
