Janie
Janie asked Gene Luen Yang:

How and when did you first get into the the graphic novel industry? Other than having passion for what you do, what opportunities did you either create for yourself or were presented to you? Do you have any advice for those who would like to have a career there? Thanks in advance!

Gene Luen Yang I started as a self-publisher. Most of my (non-superhero) cartoonist friends started the same way. Derek Kirk Kim, Raina Telgemeier, Dave Roman, Kazu Kibuishi, Jason Shiga, Lark Pien-- all started by making, printing, and selling their own comics.
