My all time favorite how-to-write book is The Anatomy of Story by John Truby. I review his book for every novel.
There is so much to consider when creating character. It's been easer since I discovered his book.
Example: I didn't fully understand motivation or character growth. I do now thanks to Truby.
I suppose I do better with females characters since I am female. ;0)

Hey Phyllis, I know some authors have everything in their books planned out before they write while others figure it out as they go along. Do you ever find in your books that you write something that totally surprises you? Something you didn't plan, and something you never would have wanted to put in there... but it's like it just happens?

Hey Phyllis! I was just thinking about the first of your books that I read, My Haunted Bed and Breakfast. One of the things that jumps out at me (even after all this time) is how intense the story was at times, but then how light and fun it was at other times. Do you enjoy adding a bit of the "light and fun" into your books? Does it happen naturally, or do you put the effort into doing that?
