a v a asked Jennifer A. Nielsen:

Hey Mrs. Nielsen, out of the books I've read, they all seem to be in first person. I saw a question about it, and you had said something about writing in first person made it easier to get inside the characters head -- which totally makes sense. Anyways, my question is how do you avoid constantly using the word 'I' in your writing? Thanks!

Jennifer A. Nielsen Experiment with other ways to begin the sentence. For example:
"I walked down the street and saw a dog."
"Ahead of me on the street, a dog was wagging its tail."
"A barking sound greeted me. My eyes brightened. It was a dog!"

And so on...pretty soon you'll get the hang of it!
