I read 'The Great Gatsby' a long long time ago and do not recall all the details. I intentionally decided to read this one without a refresher to see how it stood on its own, and I think it did great. Like you I might go back and read the Great Gatsby again but I don't think you need to have read it to enjoy this one(less)
