Goodreads asked Joanna Kadish:

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

Joanna Kadish I've been following Ottessa Moshfegh, ever since I stumbled on the short stories she wrote for the Paris Review. Her style is rich with symbolism. She was born in Boston to a Croatian mother and her father is an Iranian Jew. So both parents see the world in interesting ways that I find compelling. I know several Iranian Jews and have heard the hardships they had getting out of Iran. I love her take on things, her sense of being 'other'. I'm looking forward to reading Lapvona, her new work. Moshfegh is the author of My Year of Rest and Relaxation. the book jacket copy for Lapvona promises an epic clash between the church and the occult, the natural and spiritual worlds, and life and death.
