Naito Diamond asked Isla Ryder:

I saw a video of horse clipping. How often do horses need to be clipped?

Isla Ryder Many don't ever NEED to be clipped, it is done most often when they are going to be working hard in winter so that they don't get their fuzzy winter coats too sweaty and need a long time to cool out after a ride.
It used to be common to clip face whiskers and ear hair for shows, but as we have learned more about horses it has started to be banned in many equestrian sports as a welfare issue, so we are seeing shaved faces less and less (which is great!) people do often still clip long leg hairs for showing, as this doesn't effect the horse, only their appearance, though different breeds have different desired looks—some want the full and fluffy, while others go for a sleek look.
