small escape asked:

Is evelyn hugo a manipulative person? I finished this book in November and i just read a review by a bookstagram, she calls evelyn a manipulative bastard, but i don't think she is tho, or maybe there's a proof that she is manipulative in the book but i don't realized it?

Kristen She manipulated a lot of people. Her first husband Ernie whom she only married to get to Hollywood. The entire marriage/annulment to Max Rivera was a choreographed manipulation on Evelyn's part. She was frequently manipulating the media and public's opinion about her. Evelyn is even manipulating Monique to get what she wants.

So, yes, Evelyn is very manipulative. Perhaps you can say that sometimes it's for good or has the benefit of keeping the truth hidden and her and her family safe.

Maetime Reads I feel like it was more of the celebrity media is manipulative. Hugo explicitly states that she is a bad person, she does awful things. However, there's something exciting about reading those flawed characters, so it doesn't mean you can't enjoy the book or character.
Anna She’s smart, perceptive and charismatic and makes no bones about her willingness to grab any advantage she’s given, especially in a world where the deck is stacked against her. Manipulative has more of a negative connotation in my mind. The whole book had me rooting for Evelyn to outwit everyone!
