(view spoiler)[Why did you choose that ending for Rites of Passage? Why not give everyone the happily ever after they risked so much to attain? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[That's a great question, and one that's really hard to answer without spoilers. :-) I really struggled with the ending during the writing/revising process. I love a happily ever after as much as the next person. However, in the end, the story was of Sam's first year at the DMA. It was important for me to show the end of the first year with Sam accomplishing her original goal, which was to complete the dare. If it makes you feel better, in my bigger thinking of Sam's future, a certain drill sergeant does feature romantically.......:-) (hide spoiler)]

Hello :) Your fantastic book kept me up way too late but it was so worth it, OH MY GOODNESS! I felt such a turmoil while reading & was so angry at some of the boys *cough*Matthews*cough*, such an immersive read - thank you for writing it! I kept wondering what your experiences at military school was like - did you experience a lot of sexism? And - did you have a snowball fight/sculpture contest? :) Have a lovely day!

Hi Joy! First off, I have to say that I LOVE your book! Rites of Passage is one of my favorite YA books, and I have a huge crush on Drill now, so thanks so much for writing it. I read that you went to a military school like Sam did, so I was wondering if it's the same for your new book - have you ever done martial arts? I'm taking a mixed martial arts class myself, so I can't wait to read The Harder You Fall! :)
