Hi Joy! First off, I have to say that I LOVE your book! Rites of Passage is one of my favorite YA books, and I have a huge crush on Drill now, so thanks so much for writing it. I read that you went to a military school like Sam did, so I was wondering if it's the same for your new book - have you ever done martial arts? I'm taking a mixed martial arts class myself, so I can't wait to read The Harder You Fall! :)

Hey Drew! I have a crush on Drill, too! It's okay! :-) I'm so glad you enjoyed Rites and thanks for the great question about Harder. I took martial arts classes growing up and my husband is a black sash in kung fu, but I've never done any mma of my own. I certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity, but haven't had it up to now. No more push-ups? I understand. I did fourteen years in the U.S. Army (1986-2000) and I am resolved to never again go "camping" for however many years I have left. So have you given any thought to what you will say or do if one of your kids announces his/her intention to go into the military whether as an officer or enlisted.
