Do you have any recommendations for other hard sci fi written in the past couple of years? Were there any books or authors that you found particularly inspirational when writing The Martian?

There isn't a lot of hard sci-fi out there. I think "Mars" by Ben Bova is pretty good and is more or less solid on the science. In terms of general sci-fi enjoyment I recommend "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline.
