David
David asked Garon Whited:

Eric is an academic, he always wants to learn. Much of book one is him learning (writer’s point of view: world building). Book two, he makes a study of night lords. When Balaur flies away, Eric’s reaction is curiosity. He always wants to understand new things. Book six he studies zombies. I can cite more if necessary. To answer your question, why would he do that? He is curious gamer. It’s his nature to want to know.

Garon Whited While you are correct, consider also he did not immediately begin to study the phenomenon. Since then, he has had other concerns--often, very much larger concerns.
Will he get to it eventually? If someone reminds him, certainly.
