I shall say no. The reason for this is that I didn't know this book was a part of a trilogy until I finished it and came here to write about it. You can read this book easily without reading the other two. Everything you need to know for this story is described in the book. I certainly never felt I had missed something.
I have ordered the other two from the library now though.

I would suggest doing that. I have (and have read) the first book myself, which was also written by Richard Chizmar and Stephen King.
I don't have (nor have I read) Gwendy's Magic Feather, which was written by Richard Chizmar.
But I'll definitely reread the first one, and buy/read the second before starting the third book.

you could still enjoy this book having not read the other two, but it's a lot like watching Rambo 3 without watching the first two. There IS a section in the early chapters that catches you up on what's going on, but I'd highly suggest reading at least the first one. I enjoyed both other books. If you're a "Dark Tower" person, make sure to read this trilogy.

It would certainly help for a more nuanced understanding of what brought us to this point where the third book starts, but after an opening chapter or two, it does give a brief, high level overview of the main driver of the series and what happened with it in the first two books.
The first two also take place in very different places in the main character's life, so you get allot more of the character building.
Overall, I think you can probably just read the third book without being incredibly lost, but you probably will lose some of the things that make the story special.

Yes, because if you just read this one, you will definitely not want to read the other two. I absolutely LOVED the Dark Tower series, but hated this one with a hate that knows no bounds.

As someone who delayed reading the books until I had all three together, you need to follow the story from the beginning. At first, this was supposed to be a one-book novella, but the two authors felt that there was more to the story and the readers needed to follow Gwendy's life progress and her multiple experiences with safeguarding the button box, which then ties the complete 3 book story into the Stephen King's world. As you read through the books you will see the reference tie-ins.

Do yourself a favour and forget you ever saw the Gwendy books. Don't read them. They're awful.

says it is not necessary. I have read the first two and while it may not be necessary, I'm gonna say I would want to just because I like both authors so much and I like to know the entire story.
