Abi Demina
Abi Demina asked Andy Weir:

What made you choose to alternate between 1st person and 3rd person point of view throughout the novel, and did you have any difficulties expressing something because of the choice of viewpoint you were using in at different times?

Andy Weir I was really nervous about that. I wasn't sure how people would respond. But I didn't have any choice. The Mars segments had to be first person. If they weren't, they would have read like a technical manual and been incredibly boring. Then when it came time to show the reader what's happening at NASA, I had to go omniscient. It's not like Mark can tell you what they're doing.
