the science in the book was very impressive, how much time did you spend corroborating your facts?

Andy Weir I researched on and off throughout the writing of the book, so I don't have a number for how much time was spent on research vs. how much was spent on writing. But the total process took three years.

I've heard that you're a huge Doctor Who fan. I was wondering if you could give us a synopsis of The Martian if the Doctor (of your choice) happened to drop in to rescue Mark Watney at any point in the story? What kind of problems would they run in to along the way?

Mark was always looking forward even in times of trouble and imminent death.Most fictional characters see the most important moments from their past flash before their eyes when they are going to die. Very rarely does Mark reminisce about his family and his old life. Why did you make him that way? Why not throw in some heart-wrenching moments of nostalgia in there?
