What were your biggest challenges to confront in figuring out how to make the journey on the planet plausible to both scientific and non-scientific readers?

Andy Weir The biggest challenge was exposition. There was a mountain of information I needed the reader to know, both about Mars and about the science of space travel. And I needed to get it across without being boring.

In the original version of the book there was a scene at the very end of the book where Mark is back on Earth. When I reread "The Martian" that scene was cut from the book(newer version). Why was it cut?
