Donna
Donna asked Andy Weir:

I really enjoyed "The Martian". It read very real and suspenseful, How are you so familiar with Mars, space travel, and all the mechanics that are needed?

Jeremy
Jeremy asked Andy Weir:

First, while writing this or editing it, did you ever consider chopping out viewpoints that are external to "the Martian"? I often felt that the exposition on what was actually going on to get this guy rescued undercut the sense of isolation and the long odds of rescue.

Bob
Bob asked Andy Weir:

How much of the technology (spacecraft, lander, spacesuits, tent, etc) that you include is "NASA has this in use today" and how much is "we could do this if we wanted to, we've just never bothered to", and how much of it did you have to just make up something brand new that humans invented just for the trip to Mars?

Patrick J Dalton
Patrick J Dalton asked Andy Weir:

How confident are you in Ridley Scott's upcoming cinematic vision of your work? What sacrifices were made from the novel for the film adaptation and what was your level of input during the screenwriting process?
