Donna asked Madeline Martin:

While reading The Last Bookshop in London I felt like I was there in London at those bleakest of hours. I think I got a better understanding of the true terror and horror of war, more so than if I had watched a dozen documentaries. It was rough, but I’m truly grateful to you for that 1st person account of our world history. My question is, how did you do it (!), a lot of research?

Madeline Martin Thank you so much for reaching out, Donna! I'm so glad you enjoyed it so thoroughly and that my book offered you so much understanding of that time.
Regarding research, I did A LOT! It about a year's worth of research in a lot of various journals, diaries and correspondence. The Mass Observation was a fascinating piece of my research that provided a lot of first-hand experience that helped fill in gaps for me to share in my book.
