My best friend in high school introduced me to the historical romances of Kathleen Woodiwiss, and we thought we could probably write stories like that. But it turned out that while she loved the research, she hated the writing, so I carried on alone. Still, it wasn't until decades (and a few other careers) later that I actually tried to publish my work.
