I think so! To me, the line "One day, in ten years' time, perhaps they'll tell someone that was how it felt. The first time" meant that they ended up together. And that they would eventually tell their love story the way all the other characters did.

Hmm... I don't think so, but the author certainly left open the possibility. "He smiles weakly, and after a while she does the same, simultaneously terrified and full of laughter." (p. 335 of paperback edition). I think they've each carried around a huge, unresolved drama for 10 years, with nobody else they can trust to fully understand it. They realize they've got each other to unravel the pain and talk to. I don't think romantic love is a necessary part of that equation, but again, I might be wrong.
